Tech Experiments: Best Women’s Erotica 2010 (Kindle Beta Taste Test)

Now, this is looking to be pretty fun. Amazon just released a beta version of a feature which lets you (in this case, me) embed the first chapter from select books into a web page. Typically, for the Kindle reader, for many books — but not all — Kindle users can download a book’s first chapter so they can sample the book before making a purchase. This new option (in beta), lets me put that first chapter in a blog post, and below you can see that it has the functionality to let readers resize the text size, make it full-screen, flip through the pages, etc.

I was really surprised to see they made this available for my (hot!) book Best Women’s Erotica 2010. Not only did they include the introduction (where I tell you about all the stories in the book, but still no spoilers) — they included the entire first story! It’s a red-hot piece of erotica by extremely talented author Scarlett French. Her story “Shoe Shine at Liverpool Street Station” is simply riveting. If you’re looking for a turn-on, read it below.

And, let me know what you think of this new Kindle beta toy, if you feel moved to give me your opinion. As I love erotica so much, I’m inclined to do regular flash-erotica posts when I find sexy books enabled for this kind of sharing (unless it annoys you, or you find a bug).

  1. Well, the widget is working fine to let me read the intro and first story.

It’s a bit disconcerting to see how few words are one one page, though – hardly a sentence fits. Not your fault, of course, Violet, but a narrow little box within the vertical black bars just doesn’t present much text.

It works, but not really quite a pleasurable experience.
