Of catgirls and sex book recommendations

I wanted to buy my friend’s daughter a doll for her birthday. On Amazon, I found this incredible Barbie catgirl unintentional (?) dominatrix doll — which I kind of want for myself. But then I’d have to get the snow princess Barbie catgirl domme doll, but not the Hollywood hooker catgirl Barbie. Sometimes I love Amazon. But I really wish Barbie made Rosie the Riveter, or kick-ass rocket scientist Barbies.

Speaking of Amazon, I’ve had a few recent emails asking me where my fabulous, hand-picked, personally reviewed sex book recommendation pages went. They’re still around, but I found the ease and practicality of creating and maintaining my own Amazon aStore even better. I can add or update a sex book in minutes. When I review a new book/item, I just plug the number in and categorize it, and it’s all in one spot, everything hosted on Amazon (this makes the Squid servers all into smiley-shaped tentacles). When I find stuff that’s not on Amazon, or I want to encourage purchases from individuals rather than businesses (always) I give it a plug here. That said, I add things I love (both new and old) to this page on a weekly basis, at the very least. There’s a permanent link in my left-hand sidebar. And I’d like to point out a few recently added gems:

* Miami Purity — called by the NYT “an erotic noir masterpiece” — well, okay, NYT, whatevs. But it’s back in print, in paperback even, and this indie review says it all: dirty sex, powerful female protagonist, pulp noir. Fun.

* Roy Stuart, Vol. 5 — his hot-off-the-presses incredibly hot photo book is fantastic, as is all of Stuart‘s work.

* Rough Caress (Eternal Press non-Amazon purchase only) — extremely explicit ebook (.pdf) that is a collection of BDSM tales of all sorts. It looks entertaining and I like Lisabet Sarai‘s classic pulp-porn writing; this review of the book is a little over-wordy, but shoes you why it’s on my list.

* Opening Up: A Guide to Creating and Sustaining Open Relationships (Cleis Press) — sex-positive, all gender and orientation, but most of all, practical. Can’t recommend it enough.

* Open: Love, Sex, and Life in an Open Marriage — sensitive, first-person, non-fiction journey of a woman into creating an open marriage.

* Spanked: Red Cheeked Erotica (Cleis Press) — a collection of great explicit spanking stories, I loved it.

* Painted Doll: An Erotist’s Tale — a futurist’s noir fiction novel, explicit and enjoyable.

* The Transgender Child (Cleis Press) — I mentioned it in a previous post, but it’s truly groundbreaking enough to mention over and over.
