Wild lesbians will eat AVN: This week’s column

This week in teh chronic I waxed about the GayVn’s coming to town next month and the hot new (virtually unrecognized by AVN) wave of dyke porn — as seen in local pomo homo porno company Pink and White‘s ouvre and upcoming flick. Read all about it (and see nasty stills in an exclusive gallery) in my Fleshbot post from today. Bizarrely, on SFGate they made it seem like the column was all about the GayVN’s, which is pretty much the opposite of the point I was trying to make but… they don’t invite me to their parties anyway, /snark. But seriously, don’t miss the fun I had with the column, snip:

“So the great news is that the GayVNs are going to be in town, and it looks to be a glitzy, glammed-up event oozing VIPs and some of the world’s hottest men bedecked (bedicked?) in Armani and Prada, and drag queens so outrageous and beautiful and perfect that you want to thank your lucky stars for living in the greatest, gayest city in the whole world. What better place for gay porn awards than here? None! Harvey Milk! Folsom Street Fair! The Castro! Dyke March! The LGBTQQ center! The Pride Parade!

It still seems odd to me that in the world of Pride Parade inclusiveness, gay women are invisible to AVN. In mainstream porn, women having sex with each other is marketed as “lesbian,” but it sure ain’t defined as “gay.” Confused yet? Note that “GayVN” and “LGBTQQ” only have one letter in common — that would be the “G” for gay, as in “gay male.” That’s no trick of the rainbow light — Dorothy knows how to spell just fine. We may never see the “LesVNs,” but it’s certainly not for any lack of talented dyke pornographers, gay or straight porn awards aside. “Link.

You see, I’m also still miffed about the pissy email I got from the AVN judge/reviewer in regards to my last column about independent porn. Her email summed up exactly the porn bubble I’m trying to pop. She wrote, “There was a good indie porn presence this year, but primarily from big name companies like VCA and Vivid.”

VCA and Vivid have “altporn” directors and performers, which must be what they think equals a representation of independent production companies. However, these are big, mainstream porn companies cranking out the same old porn, just with alterna-performers, and perhaps a bit more style with (excellent) people like Eon McKai and Joanna Angel under contract. But don’t tell me altporn co-opted for Vivid and VCA is indy porn. Don’t tell me it’s a fucking cultural revolution.
