  • The New Yorker dipped its toes into one of my arenas, visiting The Center for Sex Education’s (CSE’s) National Sex Ed Conference in December. Despite being at a mainstream, fairly conservative conf, the writer seems to be struggling with their own comprehension, and very sadly, misspells ‘silicone’ (as in silicone-based lube) more than once.

  • Illinois has become the latest state to criminalize “revenge porn,” crafting what its creators hope will become a model for federal legislation. Gov. Pat Quinn on Monday signed a measure making the “non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images” a felony offense in Illinois. The new revenge porn law will go into effect June 1, and will punish offenders with one to three years in prison and up to a $25,000 fine.

  • ACT government figures show the number of stores licensed to sell pornography in the ACT has shrunk from 14 in 2007 to five. While it remains illegal to sell X-rated films over the border in NSW, the ACT’s strong regulation of the industry was partly to blame for the decline of the sex movie trade in Canberra, Australia.

  • President of faith-based anti-porn advocacy group Morality in Media, Pat Trueman, said that 2014 saw significant strides in his organization’s fight against porn, citing Google’s decision to limit adult advertising. “Google was heavy into the pornography advertising business … and through a campaign with our coalition of phone calls, emails, meetings, etc., we convinced them to get out of the porn business,” Trueman said.

  • Formerly known as adult superstar Katsuni (I love her!!!), French/Vietnamese actress Celine Tran is now embarking on a serious acting career, reinventing herself as a bona fide action heroine. Teaming up with French stunt team Cinemaction Stunts, Celine has been training furiously and produced a string of video shorts featuring a variety of different fighting styles.

  • Just as the name implies, r/taylorswiftarmpit is a place for “fans of Taylor Swift’s armpits” to join together and celebrate the shaved underarms of the pop starlet. Indeed, over a thousand of Swift’s fans have rebuked the traditional fetishizing of feet or breasts and embraced a less conventional lust for the silky smooth pits of the “Blank Space” singer. (If you want to understand fetishes like this, read my book Fetish Sex.)

  • On her final day as an Air Force lawyer, Capt. Maribel Jarzabek figured she could finally speak out about the groundswell of opinion calling for a military justice system that would put lawyers instead of military commanders in charge of serious crimes like rape and sexual assault.

  • In December, Li Yinhe, one of China’s leading experts in both sexology and the LGBT community, penned a blog post about living with and loving her partner of 17 years — a man who happens to be trans. Li Yinhe explains loving her trans male partner is not a radical act, but talking about it is.

  • Interesting article, even though it’s annoyingly tainted with the author’s negative personal judgments about sex work. ‘In Western Australia, the sex work industry operates in a gray zone: prostitution is not illegal but activities associated with it, such as brothels and pimping, are. For years authorities have turned a blind eye to places like Langtrees. And, like the miners, sex workers have flocked to Perth from homes elsewhere, sometimes travelling from as far a field as Europe or South America, for the high demand and wages.’

  • Margaret Thatcher considered using an anti-pornography law to ban sex toys during a drive for tougher rules on public decency. Documents held by the National Archives also reveal that she was sympathetic to campaigners against obscenity including Mary Whitehouse, whom she met at least twice. In a note to the prime minister, Leon Brittan, the home secretary, said that there was a “strong case” for making sex aids subject to obscenity laws.

  • Niche indie content producer Bacchus Entertainment has launched claiming it’s the world’s first bitcoin-only adult membership website. Husband and wife team creators Dennis and Saffron Bacchus said they went with the cryptocurrency because it allows them to keep the membership price low (no merchant fees), they don’t have to censor fetish videos to please credit card companies’ moral policies, and because bitcoin is fast, secure, and offers relative anonymity as it doesn’t appear on a credit card bill.
