  • As we watch and worry about friends and loved ones in New York right now, a little levity can be found in this Esquire article about hurricane sex. In a survey released in June, Trojan reported that 70 percent of Americans have had sex in “extreme weather,” and that people have sex more often and with greater satisfaction when it is hot and it rains. Seven percent of Americans have had sex during a hurricane, especially in Miami (27 percent of the city’s residents), according to Trojan. A search on Craigslist in the New Orleans area on an afternoon after Hurricane Isaac turned up more than 100 personal ads posted regarding sex and the storm.

  • Portland-based photographer Neil DaCosta and art director Sara Phillips have a fun new series “Mormon Missionary Positions.” The duo refrain from making any personal political commentary, but the dedicated website makes clear the intention by juxtaposing a frighteningly antiquated excerpt from the Latter Day Saints handbook with images of two men demonstrating sexual positions. From the classic missionary position to drawing the bow, the provocative photographs are as artistically entertaining as they are seemingly politically charged.

  • Ew. This whole culture is cliched and disgusting and just ew: The sex abuse scandal surrounding the late BBC children’s television host Jimmy Savile widened on Sunday as police arrested former glam rock star and convicted sex offender Gary Glitter in connection with the case, British media said.

  • Sensationalism alert: The documentary “Sexy Baby,” which was featured at the Tribeca Film Festival, follows Winnifred’s adolescence from age 12 to age 15, and delves into the world of porn before puberty. Winnifred’s journey in the documentary reflects that of many pre-teens today, and through her eyes parents worldwide get a glimpse into the hyper-sexualized culture their children are facing today.
