specific sex topics
A good general sex book is a great seed to begin a sex info cache, but for in-depth information about specific sex acts, techniques and ideas for making certain sex acts red-hot, read a book that details the specifics. Here, you'll find books on erotic massage, oral sex, anal sex, Tantra, the G-spot and female ejaculation, strap-on sex, dirty talk and more.
The Fine Art of Erotic Talk Gabriel
It's older, but it's still one of the best, most thorough books devoted exclusively to talking dirty. Gabriel explains why you'd want to have this terrific skill and then details how to use your voice, your imagination and even pull from your own fantasies to make your dirty talk way, way better than the caterwauling and expletive-filled tirades too often seen in porn films and misinterpreted as dirty talk.
Phone Sex: Aural Thrills and Oral Skills Austin
Miranda Austin, a former phone sex worker, entertains with her own stories working the phone lines while explaining how to effectively run a phone sex session, no matter if it's for a job or purely for mutual pleasure shared with a lover. She suggests scripts, ideas and what to do when things don't go the way you planned.
Ultimate Guide to Fellatio Blue
It's all here: male anatomy for pleasure (with no area left out), oodles of licks, sucks, tips and techniques; what to do with your hands; what to do with his hands (especially when you don't want them on your head); male genital massage techniques; prostate and anal play during fellatio; incorporating sex toys into your oral sex sessions; what to do when things go wrong; how to sweeten his come; dealing with erectile difficulty; spitting vs. swallowing and how to control where he comes; how to do tricks like put a condom on with your mouth; how to deep throat -- seriously, my gay male friends tell me how much they learned form this book, so you know it's got it goin' on. Plus, it's for everyone from beginner to expert, and never talks down to you. Fully illustrated: translated into French, Spanish, and soon Russian.
Ultimate Guide to Cunnilingus Blue
Susie Bright says, "Violet Blue's cunnilingus book is the best sheer technique manual
I've ever read on going down." Which is a hell of a compliment, but see for yourself; it's got dozens of techniques, tips, recommendations on starting, getting her "over the edge" and what to do after she comes... and much more. Yup, it's full of cool tricks like heat and cold, sex toys to make cunnilingus even more pleasurable; but it's also for the nervous beginner who's not sure how to start, what to expect in terms of taste and smell and how to talk to a reluctant partner -- and why she might not want you to go down on her (or vice-versa). Plus, there's a whole chapter just for her, addressing issues about orgasm, stimulation and pleasure, fears about look, taste and smell and more. Unlike most other books on cunnilingus, it also covers internal and external female anatomy for pleasure, anal play with cunnilingus, and G-spot/female ejaculation with cunnilingus.
She Comes First Kerner
Some people might be surprised to see this book here, as it's no secret that Kerner and I disagree on many topics, but I think that's precisely why you might want to pick his book up as a companion to Ultimate Guide to Cunnilingus. He's got a lot of techniques that combine well with mine and speaks to an exclusively heterosexual male audience and that might be just what you're looking for; we disagree strongly about female ejaculation (he quotes Betty Dodson, stating that it's not a pleasant way to orgasm). I'm not a big fan of the tone, being written for straight guys it takes a stereotypical euphemistic approach to describing sex with sports, car, and philosophy euphemisms, but that's just my Men's Health revulsion kicking in. Pick up a copy and see for yourself; it has useful stuff in it.
The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Men Brent
Written for a primarily gay male audience but with a nod toward heterosexuality, this guide to anal sex for men is an excellent resource guide on the topic and provides a thorough exploration of male anal sex, including rimming, penetration, and a variety of techniques and issues. One of the few books on male sexuality that approaches the prostate from a sexual, not medical, perspective.
The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women by Tristan Taormino
For several years this has pretty much been the anal sex bible, and for many good reasons; even while it's focused on the posterior pleasure of the female backside, it's the best all-around guide on the topic, period. Tristan explains everything you'll ever need to know about making anal sex safe, pleasurable and fun, and offers up warm and welcoming advice for everyone no matter what level of anal exploration you're at. Fully illustrated.
Art of Sexual Ecstasy Anand
This is pretty much my pick for the most complete book on Tantra and 'sacred sexuality' out there, and unlike almost all the other books on the market, it doesn't use flowery new age terms and sappy hippie writing. Instead, it's a clear and concise overview in which the reader doesn't have to subscribe to any philosophy to get useful information and techniques from the text.
Tantric Sexuality: A Beginner's Guide Craze
This was the first book I picked up on Tantric sex that made sense, and I still recommend it as the first (and for some, the only) book to get. It's very basic and not couched in rhetoric, and the book has more technique and hands-on information than explanation (interpretation) of Eastern philosophy -- the reader just gets the facts, ma'am.
The Tao of Sexual Massage Russell + Kolb
Finding a good erotic massage book is tough, even though there are many to choose from: the trick is finding one that knows therpaeutic massage, explains clearly how to do it, and how to do a sexually focused massage that can be used to either relax and seduce (foreplay) or seriously impress (and get off) a lover. This book is all that: the new ageiness hinders slightly, but the techniques shine through.
Tricks... to Please a Man Jay Wiseman
Normally I'd never pay lip service (or any other kind) to a book with such a title, but this book really lives up to its name with wonderful aplomb. The amount of little, bite-sized tidbits in this tome deliver all kinds of hot, nasty and sublime ways to sexually surprise and get off a man, from the flirty to the very intense.
Tricks... to Please a Woman Wiseman
There's no "tricking" involved here, just oodles of awesome tips specifically focused on female anatomy that all sound like fun ways to spend an evening or a weekend. Foreplay, seduction, oral sex, outrageous tips... all the tricks and fun ways to spice up the ordinary are here, and if you have sex with women, it would probably make them very happy if you got this book.
How to Give Her Absolute Pleasure Paget
Lou Paget isn't just a sex advice author, but also a tireless sex educator who is constantly putting herself out there to run workshops and counseling sessions for couples and singles on a variety of sex topics. She took the info she learned form the hundreds of people she's worked with and distilled it onto a couple of excellent books that answer hundreds of common, yet essential questions about sex. In this one, she addresses a male audience, dispensing advice and tips for all kinds of female-specific sexual pleasure.
How to Be a Great Lover Paget
Seeing as how most of her workshops are with hetero couples and straight women looking for tricks and techniques to use on guys, this excellent book comprises a large variety of "woman-to-woman" tips for everything from oral sex to feeling confident about trying something new. Great for nervous beginners who might be curious about something but want it in a non-threatening (though extremely useful) package.
Good Vibrations Guide to the G-Spot + Female Ejaculation and the G-Spot (Sundahl)
That's right; two books in one spot. Why? Because I haven't found the perfect book on this topic yet, and combined these two books give you everything you need to understand, experiment with, and enjoy female ejaculation. The Good Vibrations book is highly informative about anatomy but really old and out of date in many respects (but it's under ten bucks); the Female Ejaculation book is current and full of advice and technique, but espouses the notion that *all* women should have ejaculatory orgasms, and I don't think squirting is for everyone. Some get great pleasure from it, some don't: some women love G-spot orgasms, others say it feels too much like they have to pee. So get both books, and decide what's right for you.
The Ultimate Guide to Strap-On Sex Lotney
Most sex books glance over the subject of strap-on sex, if they even mention it at all; this fabulous book, written in a humorous, almost whimsical tone, is the primer for all adventures in the world of buying, wearing and using a strap-on. The book is for all genders and orientaitons, and while you won't find much for the bend-over-boyfriend crowd in terms of information, you will find tips on packing (wearing a strap-on in public), female to male trans strap-on advice and a great introduction to the many different types of models and styles, and how they're useful (or not).
The Ultimate Guide to Sex and Disability Silverberg + Odette
They say those of us who are in fully-functioning bodies are in a temporary situaiton; and repetitive stress injuries aside, having limited mobility (from the minor to the major) is no fun when you want to get off. This revolutionary book provides practical techniques on not only having sex but enjoying the hell out of it when contending with physical obstacles ranging from MS and spinal cord injuries to limited range from body size and a huge variety of disabilities. And thank fuck a book finally came along recognizing the fact that people with disabilities are excited, horny, sexual beings and *even more* sexually creative than their abled counterparts.
Sex Toys 101 Venning + Cavanah
A beautiful full-color, glossy and slick looking guide to sex toys that is pretty much the modern classic on the topic. If you like, or are just interested in learning about, sex toys then you'll want this exhaustive book. Covering everything from dual-action vibrators to double dildoes, this field guide helps you identify exactly what you're looking for and make informed choices depending on what kind of sex you want to have. Smart, hip and right on the money.
Big Big Love Blank
It's not just a song by The Pixies: it's a really fantastic book by, for and about fat sex. If you're big or partnered with someone who is, then you'll want to check this book for everything from tips on sex positions and effective masturbation techniques to stigmas about being fat and sexy (and how to quash them), and how to navigate the world as a big, big sexy person, from dating to finding community.
