stuff for girls
All my favorite books about female sexuality are included here, from fun science geek stuff to striptease kits -- and topics such as the clitoris, female sexual dys- (or non-) function, overall female sexual health, lesbian sex guides, a kinky dating guide, stripping and erotic dance books and more fun stuff.
Our Bodies, Ourselves Boston Women's Health Book Collective
This book could be called, "female body: owner's manual" and it would be totally accurate. Many years ago, this women's health collective put together a nonjudgmental survival, operational and troubleshooting manual for the female body that matter-of-factly explained everything from sex organs to STDs and beyond. Now, it's evolved to include birth control, aging issues, crisis and trauma information and much, much more. I'd give a copy to every woman I know if I could afford it. I just wish there were something like this for all men, too.
Woman: An Intimate Geography Angier
This has to be one of the most enjoyable and fascinating (and well-written) books on female sexuality and the science of femaleness -- and no wonder since it's written by New York Times science writer Angier. It's another one of those books I think everyone should read, and it's sometimes laugh-out-loud funny, even when she's explaining clitoral anatomy or schoolyard politics between women, and the science behind it all.
The Clitoral Truth Chalker
What is the truth? It's really interesting, actually -- the clitoris is explianed here in accurate medical detail with fascinating illustrations and explanations, revealing that there's way more to the clit than anyone tells you. For instance, if anyone ever told you an episiotomy (or other vaginal surgeries) won't harm your ability to orgasm, you'll see in this book that they're wrong; plus you'll get a lot more insight as to why anal sex feels good for women and how incredible all the internal workings of the clit really are.
Good Vibrations Guide to the G-Spot + Female Ejaculation and the G-Spot (Sundahl)
That's right; two books in one spot. Why? Because I haven't found the perfect book on this topic yet, and combined these two books give you everything you need to understand, experiment with and enjoy female ejaculation. The Good Vibrations book is highly informative about anatomy but really old and out of date in many respects (but it's under ten bucks); the Female Ejaculaiton book is current and full of advice and technique, but esposes the notion that *all* women should have ejaculatory orgasms, and I don't think squirting is for everyone. Some get great pleasure from it, some don't: some women love G-spot orgasms, others say it feels too much like they have to pee. So get both books, and decide what's right for you.
Becoming Orgasmic Heiman + LoPiccolo
If you're a woman who's interested in exploring her own sexuality but don't know where to begin, then this is certainly the first place to start -- a beginners' guide to female sexuality, for adult heterosexual women, intended as a program for self-exploration. Focuses on body exploration and being able to share your body with a lover, and includes advice on menopause. If you are looking for a somewhat clinical book that maturely deals with the topic, and the topic is difficult for you to even talk about, then this book is for you.
When the Earth Moves: Women and Orgasm Mikaya Hart
In a warm and welcoming tone, this truly wonderful book is highest on my recommended list for pre or non-orgasmic women -- and I've had many people thank me for recommending it. It's also fabulous for figuring out why orgasms are elusive, or even for some seemingly impossible, how to become orgasmic and how to have better orgasms, from a point of view that combines technique and solid advice. Know a woman who's never had an orgasm, or are you new to orgasms? Read this powerful and empowering book for all women, regardless of sexual orientation.
The Multi-Orgasmic Woman Chia + Abrams
Sure it's a little new-agey in tone and perspective, but this guide to multiple female orgasms steeped in Tantra has a lot of techniques, advice, breathing exercises and more for those interested in exploring the wide world of women's multiples and all the different ways they manifest. Written for hetero couples interested in trying Tantra while focusing on female pleasure.
Sex For One Dodson
From "the mother of masturbation", this book is the result of Dodson's many female masturbation workshops in which she would get together with groups of women, discuss how they felt about their genitals, look at their own with a mirror and compare differences with each other, and then discuss and try out different masturbation techniques. If that's too much for you as a starting point, instead check out When the Earth Moves: Women and Orgasm, but if it's not and sexual self-evaluation sounds interesting, then Dodson's warm book is a nice entry point into an exuberant sexuality and makes you feel like you're in one of her groups.
The Kinky Girl's Guide to Dating Grey
If you're a girl well-versed in the kink scene, you know you like BDSM, and know your way around a scene negotiation -- but are single and want advice on dating, picking up strangers or placing (or answering) personal ads, then this book is for you. If you're interested in finding a kinky partner but aren't into "the scene" this book won't be as helpful, but you'll still get good nuggets of information on meeting, romancing and dealing with BDSM scenesters.
Sexy Witch LaSara Firefox
Polyamorous sex educator and leader of workshops on the art of flirting, Firefox (no relation to the browser) presents a wonderful book blending pagan witchcraft with sex. It's a fun and inspiring read that focuses mainly on female empowerment and provides rituals and spells to that end; it's nice to see a magic book that faces sex full-on and even explores BDSM and kink in a ritual context.
Exhibitionism for the Shy by Carol Queen
This is absolutely one of my favorite all-time books for inspiring confidence in trying out any new sex-related anything; it gave me the courage to pick up my first whip and helped me plan my first foray into role-play and sexual dominant play. Carol teaches everything from how to talk dirty (or do anything sexual) when you're nervous, and how to plan a seduction.
The Stripper's Guide to Looking Great Naked Axen + Phillips
This book is awesome! You don't need to be rich or have the "right genes" to have a sexy looking body *at any body size*. The tips and tricks in this book were like having the drag queen stripper aunt I'd always wanted to ask for secrets and tricks for everything from making myself look more feminine to the best technique for getting rid of cellulite I've ever used: scrub it with those coffee grounds sitting in the filter right now. It really works.
Bedroom Games Taylor
The title of this book is a misnomer, and I think that might be why it's oft-overlooked: there are no sex games to be found here, but instead it's the best primer on stripping and sexy dancing I've ever read. Everything from just looking sexy when you walk in a room to how to put together an entire seduction routine is included, from music, to clothing to moves.
Striptease Kit Axen + Phillips
The authors of The Stripper's Guide to Looking Great Naked put together this fab kit, with a 50-page guide full of concrete suggestions for your routine, plus ten routines on fold-out cards, cute pasties, body glitter and a scarf that makes an excellent dance prop. A great gift for bachelorettes, or the all-in-one kit for a girl looking for instant gratification. Nicely done.
The Mistress Manual Lorelei
Female dominance can talke on a multitude of roles and forms, especially depending on the roles or needs of your submissive. But whether you're simply the woman who takes the upper hand when necessary or a goddess fit for worship from a sissy maid, this fabulous book details everything from what to wear to what to say, tasks and trials to put your submissive (or sissy) through, sample slave contracts and much more. Focused toward advanced players.
Sexually Dominant Woman: A Workbook for Nervous Beginners Lady Green
I don't think this is *perfect* for beginners as it covers some pretty "in the scene" styles of communication and terminology, but it is a great starting point for female dominants who want to define what it is they want out of their dominant roles and how to have satisfying encounters. If you're a woman who's newly in the dominant role in your relationship, give this book a look for ideas, boundaries and tools for your new role.
The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women by Tristan Taormino
For several years this has pretty much been the anal sex bible, and for many good reasons; even while it's focused on the posterior pleasure of the female backside, it's the best all-around guide on the topic, period. Tristan explains everything you'll ever need to know about making anal sex safe, pleasurable and fun, and offers up warm and welcoming advice for everyone no matter what level of anal exploration you're at. Fully illustrated.
The Whole Lesbian Sex Book 2nd. Ed. Newman
This is one of those amazing books on female sexuality that is a must-have for lesbians and bisexual women, but is something I highly recommend for anyone who has sex with women, in addition to straight women -- because of its amazing sections on expressing and understanding female sexuality, from asking for what you want and gender identity, to the finer points of cunnilingus and fisting. Not to mention the orgasm techniques. This new edition features smart sections on fabled "lesbian bed death" and porn for lesbians. Also in French.
