Documentary: “Straight Guys”

A new documentary popped up on my radar (thanks to Queer me Now) and I’m really interested to see it. “Straight Guys” takes a look at the straight men who perform in gay porn, and it premieres in Toronto’s Doc Now Festival on June 4. One of the film’s main subjects is a writer I admire, Conner Habib, so I’m extra curious about what these guys will say about sex, orientation and everything in between. I mean, I *hope* the doc explores all the questions that inevitably come up around “gay for pay” performers, as it’s a really interesting and emotionally charged topic.

From filmmaker Daniel Laurin:

“Straight-Guy Porn” is a wildly popular subgenre of online amateur pornography that features supposedly heterosexual men having sex with other men for a gay male audience.

Why do some gay men prefer to watch sex between two heterosexual men? Where does this desire come from? Is it innate or is it learned? And why would men who identify as straight choose to perform in gay porn?

Straight Guys follows filmmaker Daniel Laurin on his journey to answer these questions and reconcile his own relationship to this type of pornography. Daniel speaks to porn historians, porn theorists, porn producers and the performers themselves.

The above trailer doesn’t tell us much, unfortunately. But it did remind me how much I still love Pansy Division :)
