I came here to say exactly what Ms. Naughty said. Nica Noelle, Ms. Naughty, Liesbet Zikkenheimer of Dusk TV (along with an awesome consultant named Marje – I wasn’t able to grab her full name from the site) and I actually had a panel discussion about the conflation/overlap between porn for women, feminist porn and, ultimately, porn made by women. Although we weren’t able to perfectly delineate the three in a 1.5 hour talk, we were all respectful and open to working out the ways in which our work is similar, dissimilar and how we can work together to strengthen our individual messages to reach our audiences.

Re the article from The Week: “even female adult-film directors aren’t sure if that term is an oxymoron.”

That should actually be “one adult film director isn’t sure”. That article spun a single example of dissent (plus a bonus anti-porn rant) into the idea that feminist porn is somehow not a viable idea or is rife with confusion. Shits me when the media do that. The desire for “balance” creates articles that aren’t really all that balanced at all.

I have a long blog post to write regarding this, talking about definitions, labels, assumptions about what it all means… but I’m still in Canada. Next week. What I do want to say is that everyone I met at the awards and conference have their own definitions and we were happy to discuss ideas and debate differences of opinion and that’s kind of the point.
