  • Great article, NYT: “Before they take off all their clothes, the actors who perform as James Deen and Stoya go through a ritual unique to the heterosexual adult film industry. First, they show each other their cellphones: Each has an e-mail from a laboratory saying he or she just tested negative for H.I.V., syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea. Then they sit beside the film’s producer, Shylar Cobi, as he checks an industry database with their real names to confirm that those negative tests are less than 15 days old. (…)”

  1. While it’s great and all that there have been no recent reported cases of HIV acquired on set I am really weary of the fact that there are not mandatory tests for cancer causing HPV, or HSV2 amongst others. Many of these “harmless” “inconvenient” STI’s (I’ve heard herpes referred to as a minor inconvenience by several sex workers) are becoming more and more resistant to current treatments. But, maybe I’m just a backwards sex negative nag for being concerned about that.

  2. I hadn’t considered the friction angle in porn, I do think the tighter testing cycle would help though. And perhaps having someone actually trained do the visual check would help as well.
