Sex News: Threesome death, erotic horror, Kink wage scandal, Game of Thrones

  • It’s now being reported that Richard Madden, who plays Robb Stark on Game of Thrones, will transition to the indie Long Nights Short Mornings in his Thrones downtime. Short Mornings is being described by Variety’s ShowBlitz as the “erotic odyssey” of one man sleeping his way through New York City.

  • Just before the weekend, the beginnings of a fair wage scandal at Kink.com began to erupt. After reading these two blog posts, I’m reluctant to link to Kink until it sorts out this potentially explosive situaiton for its reputation.

  • Legendary BDSM retailer Stockroom has been getting literally hundreds of calls from people wanting to do their own Fifty Shades re-enactments. Stockroom responds by putting together this page of toys and how-to’s so people can explore kink in pleasure and safety. (Disclosure: Stockroom is an endorsed partner of TinyNibbles.)

  • The Abbey, West Hollywood’s most famous gay bar, has a new policy in place and some are calling it discriminatory. Owner David Cooley has instituted a bachelorette party ban — at least until marriage is legal for everyone. However, the ban may not stand up in court.

  • A recent study in Advertising & Society Review found that 20 percent of all magazine and Web ads involve sexual images, which falls to just 10 percent for TV spots. The debate over breasts in ads and whether they attract, distract or repel rages on, with numerous studies warning that sexual imagery can be a too-risky strategy that alienates consumers, particularly women.

  • Ew. A wealthy Dallas socialite has been arrested for selling child porn from her home for over 12 years, the FBI said Friday. The 41-year-old allegedly collected so many pictures and videos that she couldn’t remember where they all came from, court documents state.

  • In what appears to be a direct response to the failed boycott campaign of anti-gay group One Million Moms, JCPenney yesterday unveiled a new Father’s Day ad featuring a same-sex couple playing with their children. (Fun fact: One Million Moms is recognized as a national hate group by civil rights organization Southern Poverty Law Center.)

  • No one really freaked out about this: Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern, is being reintroduced into DC Comics in a big way: as the main superhero of the parallel-world Earth 2, and as a gay man.

Re: the OMM Facebook group vanishing

The One Million Moms Facebook page vanished because Reddit mass-flagged it as a hate group and it was deleted as per Facebook policy.

Re: kink.com disrespects its models…

For the sake of completeness, here is the response sent June 2nd to models affected by recent changes to kinklive.com’s structure. I can assure you we are as upset as anyone else about recent cutbacks to what we hoped would be a product protected from the plague of piracy. We are currently trying to save the site while we revamp the toolset to allow models to host cam shows much more conveniently (and cheaply) from home:

Kinklive Models
June 2, 2012

Dear Models,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the recent changes at kinklive.com and the operation as a whole. Our company has always taken great pride in direct and transparent communication with the models who chose to perform for us. On this occasion, we understand that there should have been more information and more response in a quicker timeframe, and I apologize if our communication came off as disrespectful. We look forward to stepping up direct communication between you, Sheila and myself to more forward.

On Thursday May 31, 2012, we advised all kinklive models that we would hold the “status quo” for 30 days so that we could more effectively define and implement changes to kink live in a transparent way. As you all know, we are still in the start up phase in this area of content, and there have been a few bumps along the way.

We expect to be able to have you performing in your own location with your owned or leased equipment by October 1, 2012. We have always been evolving toward this type of webcam model which is the industry standard. It has taken us a little more time than expected to get there.

KinkLive in its current form has been a loss leader to get us where we aim to be. Losses have been running at $30,000 to $50,000 per month this year. This is an acceptable loss for a short period of time, but we cannot sustain such losses indefinitely. In short, we need to restrict the number of shows to those that we expect to be profitable so that KinkLive at least breaks even while we ramp via shows in model’s homes. We welcome your feedback as to ways of achieving this goal and we would like to host a Q&A session next week to discuss the situation more fully with you. (Details will be sent out by Sheila shortly.)

Many of you are already contracting for shows with competing webcam companies such as Flirt4Free, StreamMate, ImLive, etc. While we enormously appreciate your loyalty, we completely understand if you choose to ramp up your contracted hours with one of our competitors while we build our feature set at kinklive.

It is our mutual goal to build KinkLive into a successful and sustainable product which can be profitable and rewarding to the models and kink.com alike for years to come. We very much appreciate your patience in sticking with us while we get there.

Thank you again,

Peter Acworth

The original One Million Mom’s FB group disappeared for some reason, so it was replaced by a pro-LGBT One Million Mom’s group. Not sure why, and if the new group will be forced to hand back the name of the first group makes a claim.
