Mad Men’s Angry Hot Floor Sex

Warning: this post is about a scene from last night’s episode of Mad Men and contains massive spoilers.

Does anyone know what the maker of Ms. Pare’s lingerie is in this scene from Mad Men? I’m looking, but not finding the maker…

The scene that has many people talking – and adding new items to their fantasy bucket list – is the angry sex that happens when Don Draper’s young new bride strips to her sexy panties and bra, and begins to clean up the mess left from the surprise birthday party she threw the night before for Draper. The party went over like a lead balloon for Don, and it makes Megan feel like a Manhattan was tossed in her pretty face. Cleaning the floor, she gives Don a full view between her thighs as she labors for his benefit, angrily snapping at him that he can’t have any of what he sees. Don takes this topping like we hope; the misogyny that attracts and repels us about this disturbingly magnetic man boils to the surface and he force-fucks her passionately in the mess on the floor.

There are a lot of controversial and compelling takeaways from this scene. It’s been interesting all day to watch bloggers and reviewers walk away from the episode saying that Megan proved herself to be Don’s sexual equal in this episode – and I agree. It seems like the way I described this scene wouldn’t match up with any kind of sexual equality, and ‘on paper’ it doesn’t. But it does exactly that through today’s lens of female sexual power as a spectrum and for its own sake – and no, I don’t see the Megan performing the trope of “topping from the bottom.” Mad Men has more facets of empowered (and powerful) female submissives than a diamond. Do feel free to disagree with me.

Here’s Vanity Fair on Mad Men’s Jessica Paré on Angry Floor Sex with Don, “Zou Bisou Bisou,” and a Megan-Betty Meeting This Season:

After the longest, most coincidentally maddening hiatus possible, Matthew Weiner’s Emmy-winning AMC drama Mad Men returned for its fifth season last night.

And surprisingly, the star of the season premiere was not Jon Hamm or January Jones (who was not even featured) but Jessica Paré, better known as Megan Calvet, Don Draper’s secretary and new bride, who in the opener alone, threw her new husband an unwelcome surprise 40th-birthday party, performed a bizarrely sexy rendition of Sophia Loren’s “Zou Bisou Bisou” (which will be available on Amazon later this week) for Don in front of their colleagues, and then closed the episode with a dose of aggressive, power-positioning floor fornication with her groom. 1. It would be really nice to have a female advocate sex blogger who posted about something other than the most recent media event from Lady Gaga to Mad Men. Still seems a woman’s voice has to be pretty timid to be mainstreamed.

  2. This scene blew me away and was easily one of the most nuanced and intelligent scenes in a show that has been nuanced and intelligent from the get-go. I agree that Megan showed herself to be Don’s sexual equal in this scene, but it was more than that.

Without ever “saying it,” they splayed out the games we play with sex – from masochistic to self-soothing. They did show how we can “top from the bottom,” how submission can be powerful and generous, and how the seemingly powerful can sometimes be powerless. When it started, I was riveted, and desperately hoping to see a tell-tale sign that she wanted this. The way her leg immediately went up to imply “gotcha” to him when he pushed her too the floor……. Yup. Got me.

Was it 100% healthy? Who are we to say. But it was some of the most authentic sex I ever remember seeing on a screen of any size. At least that involved a script. Fucking loved it. And if I can ever be convinced to clean anything, I’m doing it in that bra and pantie set.
