Sex News: Bacon Lube, Orgasm MRI, Harvard Sex Week, Dan Savage

  • Baconlube began as an elaborate April Fool’s prank and was never intended to be a real product. But when the joke ended, the emails kept coming. People harassed us via email, in public and in highly inappropriate ways (thanks for that). We’ll make no judgments about why you want this or what you want to do with it, but baconlube is here and it’s real for a limited time. Keep It Sizzlin‘ with baconlube. They’ll be bacon for more.” We’ve officially gone too far (Bacon Salt Blog, via Charlie Glickman; VB note – it’s water-based)

  • In August I reported here on Barry Komisaruk’s study at Rutgers University where female orgasm was mapped using MRI brain scans, and I included related images along with one of the female subject’s written description of the experience coming in an MRI tube (New Studies: Male Circumcision and Female Orgasm Brain Mapping). That’s why I was perplexed today to see headlines today announcing the August study. Turns out it’s because they’ve now made a nifty video from the scans and you can watch Nan Wise’s orgasm as it happens. Female orgasm captured in series of brain scans (The Guardian)

  • As you may have heard this week, the legendary Yale Sex Week was shut down by anti-porn and sex-negative buzzkills that are really bitter about all the bad sex they’ve been having from not learning about it. In response, Harvard has glittered its nipples, fired up the sex-positive difference engine and officially announced the first ever Sex Week at Harvard – the sweet baby unicorn is due March 2012. Yay Harvard! Sex Week at Harvard (hcs.harvard.edu)
  • While this is a timely and helpful article in light of the Penn State child abuse horror, I want to point out that the Penn State victims were at-risk children that likely didn’t have a standard parental support structure like the ‘typical’ one addressed in this article. “It starts with open communication at home, even if that’s uncomfortable.” Child sex abuse: Tips to prevent sex abuse of your child (Chicago Tribune, via Dr. Ruth)
  • Disney will pay around $40 million for Babble Media, the oft-maligned blogging hub for hipster parents, sources tell Business Insider. Disney will also onboard Babble’s founders, whose hyperliterate porn mag Nerve was a critical smash but never very financially successful. Disney Buys Pornographers’ Parenting Website (Gawker)
