The "passenger privacy" link you added works fine but the article it links to has a 404 on one of the stories it covers- the "Digital Penetration" story on Slate is actually at http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/human_nature/2007/03/digital_penetration.html. Similarly the "hilarious" link has an embedded video which has been removed - I think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gspzb_k1FAE gives you the general idea.

I'm grateful that for the moment in the UK while we are trialling the body scanners, we only get a pat down / hand scan if we set off the alarm and there are no invasive touches. They have always been polite and understanding (my mother has an artificial arm and they are happy to use the hand scanner on that rather than going bananas like the TSA sound like they do). We've already got the shoes in the x-ray scanner stuff and I do fear we may go the way of the US with effectively mandatory scans where the viewers may well get a cheap thrill from looking at the pictures - though the image scans I have seen in the press are more like a grey corpse than anything like a proper photo. Sufficient reason to avoid flying to the US though which is a shame as it's a great country.
