@Michael: “whatsername” — so, then, I guess you don’t “like” Sinead? Is that what makes her a “whatsername” instead of a person? I don’t like Michael Bolton either, but if he gets online and starts posting unusual sexual fantasies about sitting on Bob Dylan’s face, I’ll be right there writing 2,500 word posts about it.

@Vigilius — I think that in context, ascribing a religious motive to Sinead wanting to get sit on Bob Dylan’s face and get buttfucked by Mark Knopfler while wearing stilettos seems a tad apologist. Especially given that Sinead herself has made no such connection, to my knowledge. Occam’s razor strongly suggests another view of her behavior, in my interpretation.

Assuming she’s still a priest: I couldn’t find out whether the priests in Michael Cox’s sect are explicitly allowed to have premarital/extramarital sex. Just because Cox’s group has female priests doesn’t mean they’re allowed to behave in a manner utterly inconsistent with (what most Catholic groups, including splinter groups) believe to be the tenets of the priesthood. Not that I give a damn, myself, not believing in God and such. But her behavior, in public, could indicate one of two things: her getting ordained really was the sin of simony (paying for ordination — as the Roman Catholics in communion with the Holy See claimed at the time, though clearly they had lots of other political reasons for attacking O’Connor and Cox), and Sinead never took it seriously. (Her total religious instruction prior to ordination was eight weeks!) Or, alternately, she left the priesthood at some point. But I didn’t run across the latter reference.

I don’t know for sure, but I find it pretty unlikely that Cox’s group considers Sinead’s behavior consistent with priesthood, considering that Cox is a famous anti-abortion activist.

As for priest/priestess: Interesting question. I’ve never seen her called a “priestess,” it’s always been “priest,” which is the term I’ve heard used for ordained females in Catholic groups that do such things (all of them, as far as I know, not “in communion with the Holy See,” as they say). It’s always been priest, as far as I can tell, for female Catholic clergy in the modern era.

@Rafu — “Gossip” is by nature trivial, and I’m talking about attempted suicide and behavior that is clearly ill-conceived (if amusing from a distance) and places a woman with diagnosed (and publicly disclosed) mental illness at grievous risk.

This is a widely seen woman who lives her life in public, and her sexual expressions are, as described above, somewhat out of the ordinary.

If you can read the entire above article and all you get out of it is that it’s “gossip,” then I think we’re coming from two wildly divergent and irreconcilable perspectives.

Sorry, but:
· I fail to see the relevancy of her being a minister of some or some other religion, in the context of discussing the relationship between her sexually charged writing and her mental health.
· I fail to see the reason this article exists at all. Looks more gossip than news. To me, this is an anomaly on Tiny Nibbles. What am I missing? What’s up?

LOL. The doctor put him on SEROQUEL!
So is Sinead “manic?” Of course. But you are forgetting the religious/spiritual context here. That may be like saying Joan of Arc was just “crazy.” In these situations, what’s manifesting is not “normal,” but that does not mean it does not have context. See Lee Sannella’s work on Kundalini. And also Rasa von Werder’s Church of Mothergod, for example.

@Michael: Possibly, but I think it actually made sense, to throw in so much evidence, and gently lead us towards the conclusion, rather than “she’s talking sexy, but she’s actually suffering a manic episode, go read her page and you’ll see.” This was more of a gentle walk along the garden path, while explaining to us why it may not be a good idea to quit our jobs and buy some plane tickets. Not being inside her target age range, I’ve decided to spruce myself up and take my lady to bed more often and with more creativity.

Wow, yes….all else being irrelevant/equal I’d say the above all screams “manic episode”. And quite a dramatic cycle, too which means that yes….the crash will be equally as dramatic.
Christ I haven’t seen a depiction, if that term can be used here, of a manic swing quite this bad since the (yes, fictional) Billy on Six Feet Under.

*sigh* Chemical imbalances are nothing to take lightly, giggle at or worse, take advantage of. I hope she’s got someone to catch her, as you said.

“Dog collar” is a pretty common term for a priest’s collar in UK English, even unto the BBC. I’ve even heard Anglican priests referring to them as such themselves.
