[Video] El Guincho’s “Bombay”

by Violet Blue on May 10, 2011

I don’t understand El Guincho‘s video either. But I kind of want to be in it. This actually makes me miss dating a musician, when I could just write all the time and then go to crazy gigs and dance and make weird media with the band. Someone else’s bizarre visions, for a change.

I found this on Pitchfork. A Google friend sent this video to me, but then I went poking around sniffing for NSFW content (like I always do) and came up with El Guincho’s “Bombay.” I like it way better. Pitchfork tells us,

El Guincho‘s video for “Bombay” starts out as a parody of a Carl Sagan documentary, but Carl Sagan documentaries never had naked girls in them, and the “Bombay” video has a lot of naked girls.

In the cllp, you’ll also see naked and near-naked girls suck each other’s toes, make out with statues, shoot arrows, flash traffic, smash eggs on their faces, brandish machine guns, and generally engage in all manner of inexplicable mayhem. The video, from director Nicolás Mendez, has enough surreal B-movie signifiers that you’ll wonder if Alejandro Jodorowsky was secretly involved.
