SXSW 2011 Talk: Sexual Survival for Geeks

sexual survival for geeks

It’ll be like explaining how to survive a zombie geek sex apocalypse in the hallways, parties and sessions at SXSW.

And I can’t wait. On Friday, March 11 at 5pm in the Austin Convention Center, I’ll be giving the talk and presentation, The Sexual Survival Guide for Geeks. In it, I’ll hopefully make attendees laugh and learn about the peaks and valleys (ahem) of navigating sexual opportunity – or lack of – at a tech convention, specifically South By SouthWest Interactive.

On the day of the talk I will be releasing a suite of sexual resources especially for SXSW 2011 attendees. This will include Austin resources on safer sex gear, sexual emergency resources, and more. The SXSexy suite will also have links to mobile-friendly safer sex charts (sourced: CDC 2011, SFSI.org), a mobile-ready guide to flirting and the art of picking up geeks, plus a few pieces of explicit SXSW erotica in text and audio formats that I’ve commissioned especially for SXSW sexy geeks. (Author: Alison Tyler.)

Just ten more days! I’m honored that this talk was selected as part of SXSW Interactive’s inaugural year for their Health category – and I’m even more, deeply honored that interest in this talk is so high that I’m not going to be in the intimate room I expected, and am instead presenting to 600 chairs.

In addition to all this, I’m putting together a sexy geek survival kit with help from Babeland.com. I’ll be posting the little list of readily-available supplies just before I leave for Austin on the 10th.

Even if you can’t make it, I’ll be sharing all the info and resources here after 5pm Friday, March 11 (and they will also be located on a work-safe website). I can’t wait. I’ve been wanting to present on sex and social media 101 / SXSW sexy geek etiquette for a long time, and this is an incredible opportunity.

You know you’ve arrived when you become a cartoon figure. A Violet action figure is the next step. What will be standard with the first purchase and what will be the indispensable accessories? Who will be your sidekick action figures?
