Friday Nibbles: Stripping Economics, Necrophilia, Porn Racism, The Disappointment of Dr. Berman

Jiz Lee Rae Threat

* No one understands what the hell is going on with Laura Berman’s new sexual self-help television show on Oprah’s new network. Popular opinion (especially among sex educators depressed by the content) is that it – and the bizarre USA Today sex ed PR accompanying it – is setting women’s sexuality and sex culture awareness back to the pre-internet era, and just reads like a tired women’s magazine: USA Today Disseminates Sexual and Reproductive Health – A Depressing Start to the New Year (sexuality.about.com)

* I’d like to hear from my professional dancer friends about The Economics of Stripping. The post is presented as male business analysis, but comes off (to me) as naively misogynist but I can’t quite describe why. What do you think? (learntoduck.com)

* After seeing the (non-sex) trailer, I can’t agree more with the title of this post: Simpsons Porn Parody Induces Vomiting (The Escapist)

* Holy shit, I’d love to see her write more about this – Susie Bright hit a home run in her epic post The Battle Hymn of the Sexually-Sane Mother (Susie Bright’s Journal)

* I’d probably – maybe – believe Richard Elwood Sanden’s claims if he didn’t look like The Cryptkeeper: Man says he didn’t know woman was dead during sex (chicagotribune.com)

* Jiz Lee’s porn convention wrap; Mickey Mod on AVN’s blatant racism from the awards stage. Sadly, we’re not shocked. (jizlee.com, mickeymod.com)

  1. I’m not quite sure what to think about the Learn to Duck article.

When it comes to the Simpsons parody, it is even more evidence that the porn industry has followed Hollywood’s lead in running out of original ideas. When directors have to resort to spoofing CARTOON CHARACTERS then, it’s a sign that their product sucks.

So far, I have found Dr. Laura Berman’s new show to be a bit underwhelming. As a matter of fact, the show (Sexual Healing) that aired on Showtime 4 1/2 years ago was much better.

Mickey Mod touched off on yet another area where the San Fernando Valley is copying Hollywood: racial stereotypes. For all the talk about how “mainstream” porn is, the industry itself would rather stay behind in the Dark Ages.
