I >L-O-V-E< my candles! I've been making them for 20+ years. Still, I'm very fussy about how they're used.
Thank you so much for taking the time for candle safety as well as safe sex.

Send an office land address to my email, I'll send a candle to you, Violet.

Johnny, thank you so much for this; I thought about doing a parenthetical about massage candles, but didn't see a fit for this post. But while we're on the topic...

* I will reach out to consultants and educators about the fragrance-skin toxicity information for massage candles -- especially since I am a huge fan and frequent user of massage candles. I love them, and haven't had any issues. But I use them with the next bullet points in mind...

* They have oils in them, so should never be used in any way that remotely has them coming in contact with latex (as in, condoms). That means if you give a massage, having any of the oil residue come in contact with a body part that will come in contact with massage oil will increase your chances of having a broken condom incident. So if you give your lover a hot oil handjob with a massage candle, you are putting safe sex off the menu until you're both cleaned up with soap and water.

* Because they are oil based and have fragrance, they should never be used in any way that puts the oil into a vagina. The vagina is wonderfully self-cleaning, but oils are difficult to content with in this environment, and can increase her chances of infection. Double that with fragrance involved: if she's at all sensitive to infections or UTIs, getting massage candle oil inside will leave her more irritated than relaxed :(

With those details in mind, I really love massage candles. It's so sexy to give and receive with the heat and flame, and the potential for slightly kinky handjobs is... Sublime.

Since you're a BIG advocate of safe sex, please do a check on massage candles. I make candles as a hobby and I have refused to make these items for years. I'm not a big fan of soy for a raft of reasons, but more importantly, I'm concerned about the percentage of scent in the candles.
Most body lotions have 1-1/2 % fragrance oils. The LOWEST percentage I've ever put into a candle is 4% (I prefer 6-8%). Too much fragrance in a lotion is skin toxic. A massage candle would either have a very weak scent, or would be entirely too strong for skin contact.
You're the safe sex expert in the sky! Do the research and let us know!
