Alt title: Dearest RIAA/MPAA,

Anyway, here’s the news via the EFF:

3 More Adult Companies Sue 1,100 Bit Torrent Users
CHICAGO — Another wave of bit torrent piracy suits were filed Wednesday.
The latest action targets 1,100 John Does in three suits waged by CP Productions Inc., First Time Videos and Future Blue Inc.

(…) Steele, who filed the suits on behalf of the companies, operates Media Copyright Group, which offers “turnkey solution for combating online piracy of their copyrighted media.” Steele, who offers to track and ID infringers, as well as pursue damages against infringers on a contingency basis, told XBIZ that piracy has set the industry back substantially.

“I don’t like piracy,” he said. “I think that if left unchecked, the file sharers are going to set back this industry 20-30 years. Why should studios spend money for huge productions, when there are those who get it for free.” Steele said that Media Copyright Group has filed six suits so far, including those Wednesday, and that there are more to come.

“We’re looking at seven more suits by Dec. 31,” Steele said, noting that Media Copyright Group now has a dozen clients.

Steele said that, depending on client, letters will go out to alleged bit torrent downloaders offering settlement deals between $1,900-$3,900 for each infringed movie. “Of course, those numbers are initial settlement numbers,” he said. “For those who decline those offers, the bill goes up to about $7,500.” (…read more, xbiz.com)

Is SF really the actual historical smut epicenter of America? This is going to be a fascinating film, and I can’t wait to see it — I hope they get the fundraising they need! I’m excited to be mentioned in it, but more excited to see John Waters chiming in, and that it’s directed by Gay Porn Blog‘s Michael Stabile (!love him!). So. Awesome. The San Francisco Bay Guardian has this great post on it:

“(…) I’d always thought of it as an industry that emerged from LA, but San Francisco was actually the city that birthed the porno theater. It was the beginning of the sexual revolution, and in a lot of ways these directors were documenting this newly found freedoms.” Stabile attributes the renaissance to hippie women “with really no hangups,” a progressive zeitgeist that had seized the city in the late sixties and early seventies, and film processing studios that were willing to develop sexually explicit material. By the era’s zenith in 1972, there were porno film theaters in neighborhoods across the city.

Not that everyone was down to get all that action on screen. Diane Feinstein, first in her post as the city’s first female president of the Board of Supervisors and then as SF’s first female mayor, led a crusade focused on cleaning up the Tenderloin, which incidentally included sweeping the neighborhood free of its supply of adult movie houses. What ensued was an orchestrated harassment policy that different porn theaters dealt with in different ways.

Established theaters, Stabile says, actually benefited from the police and media persecution. “They’d come in with cameras, it’d be on the five o clock news and it would be great for them,” he says. “Advertising was very limited at the Chronicle. Feinstein would come in with her troops and would detail everything that was going on. Suddenly there was a way to talk about it, so people would flood into the theaters.” The Mitchell Brothers grew so adept at playing the cat and mouse game, he says, that they would post Feinstein’s office number on their marquee under the words “call for a good time.” (…read more, sfbg.com)

Update: the new version is now on Kindle!

It was about time: The Ultimate Guide to Fellatio is now officially re-released in its second edition! Before it hit the “bookshelves” Examiner National’s Sarah Estrella got her hands on the new version and reviewed it with major praise next to her copy of the originalthank you! Today, Glamour pulls a pretty excellent tip from the new book to give their readers an edge for their bf’s next bj (yay, I didn’t know Glamour even had a new copy!) And in the brand new book trailer (above) I tell you why I wrote it and what’s new: revisions, STD/STI updates, new resources, and I’m absolutely honored to have a hilarious, nerdy short intro story by one of my writing heroes, Mary Roach.

guide to fellatio violet blueIf you already have a copy, you don’t need to buy the second edition — but you might want to. Also, even though the PR is heterosexually focused I wrote the book for all genders and sexual orientations (refreshing: plus it has tips from gay men).

In prep for this exciting announcement, I have a few more things to get you in the mood. Camille Crimson wrote one of the best blowjob advice articles I’ve ever read for She Loves Sex: check out How to Give a GREAT Blowjob. I also completely revised the Fellatio Facts page on this website with more information, erotica, articles and resources.

I’m just an author with an independent press: I don’t have the resources or money of houses like Harper or other majors who make budgeted, staffed, corporate-quality studio book trailers. It’s just me and my MacBook and a Canon point-and-shoot. This Ultimate Guide to Fellatio video (and all my book trailer videos) would not have been possible without the contributions and support of other indies. This trailer is full of images from Camille Crimson (follow her on Twitter) and UrbanPhotography — and with thanks to Eon McKai (he is on the Twitter, too).

Now for the dirty part. The video is sweet, yet I’ll admit it’s tame. Let me untame you. Check out Camille’s tube socks video. Here’s a very hot POV gallery of alt girl Acacia. And if you want really exquisite, explicit, tasteful videos — here is a collection from my favorite French porn site.

Update: This announcement is timely! I’m reminded as we’re in the middle of American Library Association’s Banned Books Week (Celebrating the Freedom to Read) that my book The Ultimate Guide to Fellatio was a target of attempted banning in 2004. Thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, booksellers, and members of the American library community, my book was retained in American library collections.

vida vanta mypleasure violet blue

It’s important for me to start this post by telling you that I am in no way affiliated with sex toy retailer MyPleasure, I am not an affiliate nor do they sponsor me — and I get sent sex products all the time from companies hoping for an editorial mention or a link. It is rare for me to mention or link unsolicited products or websites, because I won’t endorse crap (or unethical behavior). This is especially important to uphold in the world of sexuality and adult entertainment.

Today I visited my mailbox and got this box from MyPleasure. They have sent me things in the past and I have not always mentioned it — though they do carry a toy I can’t live without, the Fairy Mini Wand, and so I don’t mind the occasional surprise package from them. Especially when they arrive around my birthday (it was last week, it generally sucked, though I got new tattoos, and life goes on).

Their Social Media PR Strategist Garnet Joyce executed something that impressed me very much. Yes, I got goodies. But that isn’t why I’m giving them props. I see a lot of bad social media PR — not just as a person in the tech conference world, a sex writer/author/blogger, or because I’m called a social media “thought leader”. Bacchus and I have been making vicious fun of PR media doofuses (in and out of the sexuality realm) for years. I think it’s important to praise the good ones as much as possible. The power of positive feedback is underrated in online culture.

So, they sent me a Vida Vanta and some Kama Sutra Honey Dust. But in my opinion, it was a clever act of social-media driven PR. If PR people in other sectors (topic-specific product and lifestyle markets) did this with the “influencers” they hope will “evangelize” their products in a non-skeezy way, they’d build reputation value, more brand awareness and much more. I mean, I love the Old Spice virals. That’s one method. There are many methods. Getting “evangelists” and “influencers” is one. But courting “influencers” in specific markets is tricky. To keep our credibility, we must be very careful with how we spend our social capital. Press releases and unsolicited spam, or ‘gaming’ social media for followers or likes ain’t it — nor is it sustainable for a brand’s PR.

Breasts in 3D

It’s simply a great idea: a book of lovely, lovely breasts of all sizes, all beautifully photographed in 3D. The blog 3DD Breasts in 3D offers book purchase and ongoing samples, and does not disappoint, even if you don’t have the glasses. Bravo. More info is in this great Fabric interview with 3DD’s Kiwi photographer Henry Hargreaves. (Thanks, VK!)

I’ll let BBC tell this story, what little is known anyway… Wow, 4chan is effective. Snip:

Adult video-sharing list leaked from law firm
The personal details of thousands of Sky broadband customers have been leaked on to the internet, alongside a list of pornographic movies they are alleged to have shared online.

The list, seen by BBC News, details the full names and addresses of over 5,300 people thought by law firm ACS:Law to be illegally sharing adult films. It appeared online following an attack on the ACS:Law website. The UK’s Information Commissioner said it would investigate the leak.

Privacy expert Simon Davis has called it “one of the worst breaches” of the Data Protection Act he had ever seen. The documents appeared online after users of the message-board 4chan attacked ACS:Law’s site in retaliation for its anti-piracy efforts.

The firm has made a business out of sending thousands of letters to alleged net pirates, asking them to pay compensation of about £500 per infringement or face court.

(…) The attack on ACS:Law is the latest in a number of high-profile attacks by piracy activists.

Last week, hackers temporarily knocked out the websites of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The attacks were declared on notorious message-board 4chan and were reportedly in retaliation for anti-piracy efforts against file-sharing websites.

Users of 4chan are renowned for online activism and direct action. “Operation Payback”, as it was known, was reportedly revenge for the MPAA and RIAA’s action against The Pirate Bay. The group has declared it will continue to target other sites involved in anti online piracy activity. (…read more, bbc.co.uk)
