Thanks, Violet! I'm having some sort of long-service sex-blogger burnout thing going on right now, where I have a hard time getting interested in writing about much of anything. But I still enjoy playing with images, especially pulpy and vintage ones, and so as you've probably noticed a lot of my posts are just a few words about an image that's caught my eye. It's good to know that somebody enjoys those too. ;-)

Agreed. I saw some other chat about this on a dirty MMORPG mailing list I lurk on, but I couldn't quote any of it ;)

On another note, I loved your Badger post:

http://www.erosblog.com/2010/08/04/suck-my-badger/

Been watching "Spartacus" lately, where I'm convinced they all have a Subway Meatball Marinara packed in their chonies for on-set lunchbreaks. Not that I'm complaining.

Well, at least that latter link actually says there was erotic roleplaying going on at the location in question. The first one made it sound like just the normal gross immature gamer smacktalk.

Bacchus, thank you. It's a tough call on my side because I don't know how the monitoring is going to play out:

http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/world-of-warcraft/1110605p1.html

And also because I'm not a MMORPG-er. But yes, it's just one of those 'concerned parent' types who aren't familiar with the way talk does not equal action in online text exchanges.

So let's hope no one tells the concerned parent about 4chan :D

Thanks again for the clarification, it was needed.

Bah, Violet, you got snookered by a sensationalist headline. The actual text of the story involves an outraged parent who found his kid and his kid's friends sniggering around the keyboard because of "sexual emotes, gay bashing, racial comments" at a location in game known for these. Blizzard responded by saying it would have its customer service monitor the game location for "public ... rule-breaking language" and "following up privately with the player[s] in question."

Obviously we'd need chat logs to know for sure, but it sounds to me like the crackdown was against the usual rule-breaking toxic speech that 14-year old gamers get up to in any chat environment if you let them. Public flirtation leading to private hookups in chat can usually be managed quite nicely within the TOS of any game (except maybe Toontown's). And anyway, there's nothing in the Tom's Hardware article to support the "Crackdown on Erotic Roleplaying" headline.
