Thursday nibbles: The evils that some do

* You’ll understand this week’s headline when you read Female Genital Mutilation at Cornell University, where Dan Savage discovers and reveals something horrifying going on behind closed doors: A pediatric urologist at Cornell—Dix Poppas—has been operating on little girls with what he judges to be oversized clitorises, cutting away important clitoral tissues, and then stitching the glans to what remains of the shaft. Yes, it’s wrong. Yes, people are outraged. I Tweeted it earlier, and the Twitstorm is exploding. (slog.thestranger.com)

* And then, there’s Apple, again. I want to love Apple and so I want to not be telling you about anything hypocritical. In Should Apple allow English porn iPad app? it looks like the app store is set to run The Sun (UK) and all its ‘page 3’ girls in all their glory as an app (while US fashion magazines are calling their censored app store version “the Iran edition”). Sigh. (news.cnet.com)

* Yesterday Mother Jones got pwn3d big time. The notoriously left-leaning magazine was right-wing astroturfed when they ran an article that was full-on anti-porn, conservative Christian, far-right FOX News propaganda — and the writer swallowed it whole in a show of some of the poorest journalism I’ve ever seen. No fact checking is to be found in Have the Feds Gone Soft on Porn?, just regurgitated manufactured opinion. It’s exactly as if they’d run a sizable article reporting on the horrors and “facts” of unborn children torture-killed by Planned Parenthood, with “data according to” people from National Right to Life. I’m considering an offer to do a larger story on it, but for now, you can see here where I spanked them on Twitter. (twitter.com)

* Let’s get a little lighter here: OMFG it’s gay pride month! Yay! Kicking off my Pride spree is this piece I really enjoyed the Guardian UK’s latest installment in Transgender Journey, ‘I was looking for a trans counter-culture’. Heartwarming and true; I saw so many familiar stories in her essay. Brilliant. (guardian.co.uk)

* Iwannaknow — the newest sex information website you want to add to your file for sex-positive parents and teens because it totally rocks. Big bonus points for the sections on how to be an askable parent. (iwannaknow.org, thanks, SFSI)

* Evils? How about some saints. The new Pornsaints catalog is out, and it’s only $6. Pretty pretty art based on many of our favorite performers, by hot artists. (pornsaints.org)

* If beautiful blowjobs had a saint, it would be Camille Crimson. If you don’t read Camille Crimson’s tasty blog, you should. She’s a a PHP geek turned adult model/webmaster, and in her first vlogging venture, she gives us a tour of her office:
