new dating site alikewise matches book nerds

Alikewise just launched a little over a week ago (so it’s pretty sparses right now), but it’s the first dating site to match people based on their favorite books. Okay, not the very first — Borders UK tried this back in mid-2009 with Happily Ever After — yet that was from a bookseller, rather than a dedicated dating site around books (and also sells books through Amazon). I think Alikewise is a spectacularly great idea. I mean, not only because I’m a writer, but because I’m a reader. And when you find someone who’s reading taste matches your own, it’s pure intellectual foreplay. Hot. I’m excited to see this site grow, and I’m eager to see what will happen with erotica and sex books. Two of my newest books in the database (YAY!) but with no matches yet (boo!), though the books are still quite new, like the dating site. My only wish for Alikewise — it’s in beta, so this may be on the way — would be a way for profiles to have threaded discussions about the books. This would be a great way of giving people ideas for conversation starters, in addition to public flirtation, etc. Sort of like blending Alikewise with Gravity. Nonetheless, big props to our new book based dating site. Finally!

Hello Violet Blue,

I would like to personally thank you for your write up on Alikewise. We appreciate the publicity and the great review you gave of our site. Please let us know if you are in New York City and have time for us to take you out to dinner so that we may have an opportunity to meet with you and talk to you more about our plans for the site.

Also, we are currently planning a release event which we are working on press coverage for. We would like to use the below quote from your site and want to know if we have your permission? We would off course give you credit for the quote where ever we get it published.
We are anxious to hear your response and hope that you can help us.

Hey Violet,

I’d like to point out, actually, that they’re not the first dating site to match people based on their favorite books. Actually, Pickv, which launched publicly a little over a month ago, not only matches people based on their favorite books, but also on restaurants, movies, music, and tv shows. While it’s not as focused on the book geeks (like us) as alikewise is, it adds some versatility.
