Local women-run porn makers Pink and White establish safer sex best practices

I’ve been wanting to see this happen for a very long time; at one point I even approached friends at Kink to crate a “best practices” based on their own spotless safer-sex guidelines and put them out for all to see (and hopefully follow). They did not, but I’m ecstatic to announce that San Francisco based women-run porn empire Pink and White have just published their safer sex best practices in porn standards, complete with resources and solid encouragement for Risk Aware Consensual Kink (aka RACK). We really need more porn companies to follow this example of transparency in business and healthy principles for their practices. (Please.)

One of the reasons mainstream porn is dying is because they’re maintaining a disconnect with their customers/users (the opposite of social media principles in business). Seems to me something like this would foster viewer connection to their products, which like social media, are made of people.

  1. As a non-industry sexpos consumer, I have to place mainstream porn under the rubric of mainstream meat production and mainstream media(mostly music ie:copyright). The zeitgeist is tending toward less overt ‘total melee’ (my phrase b/c I don’t have a better one) form of capitalism toward personal morality, respect, quality vs. quantity, etc. It’s showing up in our porn too. It’s still something we have to deal with, but I believe the change is occurring.

I guess it depends on how you define “mainstream porn”. The girl/girl genre (now transforming into the New Wave of Lesbian Erotica), which is on the receiving end of so much rhetorical piss-talking from the “real queer” porn crowd, is actually one of the healthiest genres in porn right now, due in no small measure to 10 years of activity of the Lezlove Video Group, which has been connecting large and small porn producers with an active community of fans of the genre with very high standards. Now I’ve just read that Metro, one of the dinosaurs of the old porn industry, is going to try to give old lines like “No Man’s Land” and “Babes Illustrated” a new lease on life by bringing over a director who used to be with Girlfriends Films.

Now as far as safe sex standards and viewers go, while I think the degree that fans aren’t receptive to condoms for penetrative sex is exaggerated, I can guarantee you that dental dams for f/f oral sex is going to go over like a lead balloon. It basically kills what’s erotic about viewing cunnilingus, and for the questionable gain of a safer sex technique that very few people, lesbian or het, actually use in real life.

  3. here is one of our social media connections to our body of work. we also maintain a guestbook on our main site, where we take suggestions from fans and turn them into our vision.

we got on the wrong side of the porn industry with this approach, lots of hate mail about how we don’t tie our knots properly and how come no one gets hurt? but mostly we looked like the beginning of the end for an industry that sold subscriptions to clubs when we started selling downloads of complete chapters.
