It sounds like it was a blast! I had a very similar experience, although I too was a SXSWi virgin. I am in the "space" industry, but I can see a lot of similarities. There should be a ton of tech and space crossover, as there is the tech and sex crossover. I have to mirror much of your sentiment about many panels being quite worthless and or misleading.
