loving the Met Art user generated galleries

Seriously: whoever came up with the concept and execution of Met Art‘s member generated galleries (and letting people vote the hottest ones up to the top) is pretty brilliant. It’s the perfect combination of giving consumers the ability to put together their favorite content, letting us see what people like most, democratizing the process, and then delivering the content itself — full resolution and large photos, no membership necessary. We just peruse what people like, and we get to see all of it. It’s perfect; I never feel like I’ve been teased by a bait-and-switch of tiny thumbnails. Free, handpicked fun. And I’m sure it’s working well for them as a business; their members are culling the best photosets and cutest models and cross-pollinating the content, constantly introducing each other to new reasons they might want to keep subscribing.

Enough of my nerdy porn business model excitement; get excited on your own and go check out the Met Art Top Voted Gallery Portal page I just found. Bookmark it and enjoy.

Hi Violet Blue,

My name is Johnnie and I’m the new community manager for Met-Art. I just stumbled across this and we here at Met-Art appreciate the feedback! We’re revamping the website, so expect lots of changes for Met-Art in 2010! If you have any questions, thoughts, or concerns, I can be reached through my Facebook or Twitter. You have a wonderful and very insightful site. Great layout as well :).

Best,
Johnnie

@casualencounters – that’s hilarious!

you know, sometimes I’m inspired/excited by what people like.

and other times, that ‘wisdom of crowds’ thing… not so wise ;)

Leave people to their own devices and this gets voted to the top? Really?
