UK university job offer to study lapdancing pays less than lapdancing

by Violet Blue on November 27, 2009

Just found this item: Leeds University advertises for lap dance research officer (telegraph.co.uk). The advertised position is for: “Research Officer – The rise and regulation of lap dancing and the place of sexual labour and consumption in the night time economy”. The ad states that “prior experience of conducting research in the female sex industry” is essential. Telegraph UK says, “Having got the post, the successful applicant would work with the school’s team on a research project to examine the “rise, tolerance and integration of sexual consumption and sexual labour displayed through the erotic dance industry”, and the commercialisation of female sexuality and the female body.”

The punchline, to me, is the offered salary in comparison to what one might make actually doing the lapdancing, rather than study it. Belle de Jour, anyone? Here’s the official job offer page with details (hr.leeds.ac.uk).

The question is whether or not they’re paying expenses…
