[video] Uncensored BEP: Another eroto-pop video

Here’s the very fun uncensored version of “I Gotta Feeling” (via) by the Black Eyed Peas — you know about my eroto-pop video fetish, and this is right in line with Hilary Duff’s sexy, unreleased version of “Reach Out” (which I think is very Andrew Blake meets Terry Richardson; companyx.tv).

I really like the BEP video — spot the Nokia N97 (I just got mine *in black* yesterday, thank you Nokia!!!!) Both songs (“I Gotta Feeling” and “Reach Out”) are kinda okay songs on their own, but the videos are *totally* worth ogling. And I just want to point out the “Let’s Do It Again” chorus in the BEP song… It’s so familiar….

Just pointing out that there’s a difference between
writing st catchy but derivative (BEP) and st catchy that also innovates pop music (Planning to rock, Chicks on Speed). Speaking of derivative songs, the song played at the end of the Lady Gaga video violet linked to (on twitter not here), I think the theme is a slowed down version of bass-sample used in the old Salt n Pepa hit Push it. (and I definitely did not see a dick)

  2. What most impressed me was the fact that the voices were mixed up and not drowned out. So much of today’s music seems to drop the vocals into the middle of the mix, removing them from the level of being a lead instrument.

As to ripping off the tune, does that mean the melody? I’m a composer, and I came up with a tune the other day which was mournful and beautiful. I thought it was so original.

It was a slowed-down version of Bob Dylan’s “I Want You.”

The style was like the instrumental guitarist Ed Gerhard arranging Imagine. Not to disagree wit the above comments, but gee, with all the music out there it can be tough to write something original.

  3. The Hillary Duff video makes me happy in pants, but sad in brain. How can she steal 70% of Personal Jesus and call it a new song?

The “reach out and touch me” line is literally one word different from the original, and the instrumental portion is lifted directly from Marilyn Manson’s cover.

  4. Thanks for posting Violet! I dig the song, the video though …I don’t know, aside from the typical horrid music vid product placement (Nokia, sorry I know you love your new phone hehe, and the Dell Mini) it’s got some sexist parts – ass slapping the woman walking down the street, running up to the girl at the party and pulling her top down, etc. And don’t forget to have hot chicks making out because being “Bi” is really hip. Maybe I’m looking at it too seriously and should lighten up :P Maybe I just don’t like Fergie’s face? Her thong, I will admit, fits very nicely!

I’m writing in from Europe so a q to you americans: where exactly are the offensive parts in this video that would get it banned in the US? Other than one second lasting shot of one naked boob? The constant product-placement is probably more offensive.

I agree Violet, BEP just ripped off the tune. it’s catchy but derivative. BEP always did that, with lenny kravitz, dick dale, sting, etc. in the past they would sample, will-i-am has gotten better in the studio, so now he’s making derivatives.. doesnt have to sample directly any more.
