SXSWi 09: sex blogger Funky Brown Chick’s panel on brand protection

by Violet Blue on March 25, 2009

There were a few panels I missed that I really wanted to see at this year’s SXSW1 2009 — most notably my pal sex writer and sex blogger Twanna A. Hines’ (THE Funky Brown Chick — accept no imitations) panel How To Protect Your Brand (Without Being A Jerk). I wish this panel had happened a year ago so people could better understand my experiences with trademark and brand protection — this is what I went through, and I was more than happy to put Hines in touch with the EFF. Friend Danny O’Brien from the EFF is fabulous and clarifies things I’ve wanted to make clear about the distinctions between ownership and brand use. And what to do when your work, image and brand are confused as being someone else’s work — and the value of registering a copyright, and when it’s necessary. Until SXSWi releases the MP3, you can watch the whole panel because toddlucier livestreamed the entire (1 hour) panel discussion. Skip the first 6 minutes of setup; it’s really worth it.
