in town: “Roulette” and Homo A Go Go benefit

by Violet Blue on March 11, 2009

If you’re local and into hot hardcore queer cinema, you won’t want to miss the premiere of “Roulette” this Thursday at The Roxie. First, a round of applause for The Roxie to host the cutting edge of sex, queer filmmaking and controversy. Next, dig the fact that “Roulette” is Courtney Trouble‘s directorial debut — Trouble, who is the sexy, nerdy, queer porn star geek and code goddess behind NoFauxxx. Two years in the making, “Roulette” is a seven-piece vignette collection featuring:

An engaged gay couple brings a one-night-stand appeal to their punk rock sex on a rooftop. A queer femme hosts and directs her own gangbang. A Female-to-Male (FTM) transgender guy gets himself off with a glass dildo, and a real life lesbian couple proves that staying home is anything but mundane. These drastically different scenarios are authentic documents of queer sex, culture and desire, proving that queerness is “as hard to define as it is to ignore.”

It’s not just a film event, it’s also a benefit for Homo A Go Go 2009, a four-day festival of queer music, film, art, performance and activism set for early August (13-16) at SOMArts (934 Brannan St., SF). Homo A Go Go has featured everyone from indie newcomers to fancy famous peeps like John Cameron Mitchell and Bob Mould to Kate Bornstein, and yes, even The Indigo Girls.

Tickets are $10 for “Roulette” and it’s this Thursday showing only once at 9pm. After — and you’ll only find out here or if you attend the screening — there’s an afterparty at The Lexington that’s going to be packed with queer porn stars, homo go-go dancers, and plenty of… Trouble, to be sure.

The other Thursday event is the Extra Action-fueled benefit for Hollis Hawthorne who needs to get from India to Stanford ASAP (see also: the Hollis blog) at Slim’s, details here.

This definitely sounds like a flick to look forward to.

Oh, for the day when a queer porn flick’s opening weekend numbers beat out Hollywood’s best at the box office!

Courtney Trouble is one helluva lady. she’s amazingly talented and I can’t wait to see her movie! I saw a clip of it at a showing of The New Romantix by Maxx Royale (awesome movie btw) and it was just delicious looking!

I hope I’m able to go to this. looks too good to pass up.
