eroto-pop music moment

by violet blue on December 22, 2008

Going through my blog posts throughout 2008 today for column research, I noticed that I occasionally inflict a pop music video on you. This is one of those times.

Two versions of this video were cut: this version has all the erotic, controversial edits included that prevented the director’s cut from being allowed on American TV. The (clean) video became available in the US and Canada iTunes store on Nov. 18. The song is less of a cover than a blatant rip (IMHO), but I actually like it anyway — and the video really does look like a cross between Andrew Blake and Terry Richardson. I also really like the rapper, Prophet — if anyone has a link for him, please do let me know.

Im confused. What the hell was so controversial about that? Closer was a hell of a lot more dirty in clean and directors versions (and I would willingly make the argument the clean version is in fact dirtier in its implied nature of things). Hell anything Trent put out 95 and earlier was dirty as hell and got airplay on 120 minutes.

Have we really become that prudish where a former disney teen sucking on thumbs and having a guy hold her neck is in fact almost porn?

Agreed that the video was tame.

However, may I just say that I’m glad to see Hilary Duff has grown up? *wicked giggle*

Wow, this was censored? I sometimes forget how candyland our TV is nowadays. I’m just so used to explicit stuff online that I kept waiting for something to register on that scale.

I guess I just don’t get mainstream anymore, lol.

Umm… was the deviation from DM’s ‘Reach out, touch faith’ intentional, or just an unimaginative misread? I like the original better.

I was so distracted by her awesome makeup that I didn’t notice anything risque. the touches of purple eyeshadow when she’s on the dining table are brilliant and I love when her lip gloss looks haphazard – so hot. Like violet’s chipped black nailpolish – yum!

As covers / rips go, that wasn’t half bad. Does make me want to listen to the original though.

And if that’s considered risqué, then the world is truly in trouble.

So they censored that why? It seemed pretty tame to me. I could see some anti-porn feminists dislike the hand around Hilary’s throat and her being in a position of submission at the standing man’s feet but it didn’t seem extreme by any means.

NIN was a lot more explicit than that.

You know i was thinking about it, was it self censored by the label or did they actually get told it had to be censored.

I only wonder because I know iTunes would never have asked to censored it so that really would only leave I guess MTV (do they still play music videos?)
