spend New Year’s with us!

by Violet Blue on December 31, 2008

The irrepressible and utterly gorgeous KumiMonster, tonight’s co-hostess.

Like last New Year’s (laughingsquid.com) I’m having a private party — if I didn’t get you on the list, or you’re too far away you can still spend it with me, and with us.

This year was rough for almost everyone. We won, we lost, we survived, we touched one another, we grew and we got hope that we needed oh so badly. Thank you for finding me, writing me, sending me things that made me feel less alone. Thank you for listening, reading, watching, critiquing, teasing, opening up, or just lurking and enjoying. In 2009, I know we’re going to make something good in our lives and the lives of others, and make it last.

For my party tonight I hired on Craiglslist and Twitter for a “house greeter / attendant / flirt” and the winning applicant was — amazingly — KumiMonster. She’ll be greeting guests, attending, and… being Kumi. I’m excited to meet her; she’s on the cover of my Fetish Sex book, after all!

* We will all be (randomly, out of my control) liveblogging the party at http://bloggerbungalow.wordpress.com/ (Blogger Bungalow, my official house blog).

* Eye-Fi will be up and running in my “party favor” camera, being passed around the room: the party’s LIVE photostream is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bloggerbungalow/. This stream will be monitored, so make sure your “safe” filters are off.

* My laptop will be livecam enabled, and guests will press “record” to film a 12-second moment or New Year’s resolution, which will instantly post to my 12 Seconds channel at http://12seconds.tv/channel/violet and also to my personal Twitter stream, hopefully not annoying the hell out of my followers. (Update: also re Twitter, it’s #vbnye09)

* RSS feed for all of tonght’s media, via Yahoo Pipes (let’s hope this works and isn’t a noise-fest) is: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=hsskdZnX3RGWdCjy1JzWFw

Finally, a HUGE thank you to Good Vibrations who donated *incredible* party favors for all my guests — Good Vibes still loves us :) The party is also sponsored by a private donor at the U.S. Metric Association. Thank you.

It’s not clear that it’s *certain* they’ll drop the censorware, but still all I can say is YAY and let Ars Technica’s Matthew Lasar tell you the good news (sorry, Australia) — snip from Martin drops porn filtering from FCC free wireless broadband plan:

Kevin Martin, the Chair of the Federal Communications Commission, called Ars Technica today to let us know that he has revised his proposal to roll out a free (and smut-free) wireless broadband service. In an effort to corral more votes, Martin has already circulated a new version of the plan, one that removes the controversial smut filtering requirement.

Why the change? “I’m saying if this is a problem for people, let’s take it away,” Martin said. “A lot of public interest advocates have said they would support this, but we’re concerned about the filter. Well, now there’s an item in front of the Commissioners and it no longer has the filter. And I’ve already voted for it without the filter now. So it’s already got one vote.”

“Got anybody else?” I asked him.

“Not yet,” Martin admitted with a chuckle. Then he expressed a bit of impatience with his four colleagues. “This is an item that has been pending at the Commission for several years, that the Commissioners were originally critical of not having moved forward faster,” he said. “Other Commissioners said, ‘We’re overdue; we’ve got to do this.’ But when an actual item is put forth where you have to make a hard decision, they say, ‘Well, I’m not so sure what I want to do anymore’.”

Bring on the free smut!

As we have been reporting for some time, the FCC’s outgoing boss has been championing a proposal to auction off a hefty chunk of the Advanced Wireless Services 3 band (2155-2180MHz) for a free service that (until now) was to come complete with smut filtering. (…read more, arstechnica.com)

monday pre-NYE nibbles

Image of Justine Joli by Steve Diet Goedde for Stockroom.

* Off topic: I’m in Joi Ito’s new book, Freesouls — with a lot of really heavy hitters in the technology arena. It’s a huge compliment, and the book looks incredible.

* FriendFinder Networks, aka Adult Friend Finder / Penthouse Networks is going IPO public in a Hail Mary gesture — and they’re not being met with open arms (or legs, for that matter) on Wall Street. They are $450 million in debt. Again, so much for “sex sells.” (news.cnet.com)

* A friend has a nice snack-food sized roundup of the year in (mainstream) sex that’s a fun read. I think the “starfuckers” blip was my favorite, though it’s got a lot of stuff I’ve blogged so I may be jaded. Still I think it’s enjoyable, and how *hilare* is it that that The Daily Beast is trying to be all big bad in media but still won’t print the word “fuck.” (thedailybeast.com)

* The New Yorker, which is a mainstream media outlet unafraid to use the common word “fuck” has a review of the old book “The Joy of Sex” and accompanying slideshow. Won’t it be neat when they start reviewing contemporary and more relevant sex bestsellers of high cultural impact (waiting until 40 years after the books were printed, of course)? (newyorker.com)

* Everyone’s fave sci-fi blog has a tasty post with the trailer for Lesbian Vampire Killer, whose byline is “Shaun of the Dead with tits.” You need say no more to get my fangirl temperature up. (io9.com)

* Yay Lux: Fleshbot Craft Corner is featuring a video of the DIY Lego masturbator (much like those Japanese handjob machines). Sharp corners notwithstanding, I’d love to see a little Lego Mindstorms action added on, like a flamethrower or remote-control driving capabilities. (fleshbot.com)

* Speaking of Lux’s Boinkology, right now she’s got a popular post about the world’s “classiest” butt plug — the “gentleman’s” plug Earl by Lelo that does indeed come with matching cufflinks, for all your formal black tie prostate massage holiday parties. The gold set is only $990. (boinkology.com)

* In case you missed the blogosphere blast today, The Times of Harvey Milk is indeed free to watch on Hulu right now. It looks like Hulu blocked The Sex Carnival’s embed, but not Laughing Squid’s — how sad of Hulu to do that. (hulu.com, seen @ The Sex Carnival, Laughing Squid, Joe My God)

* Teens don’t self-report the realities of the sex they’re having and virginity pledges don’t work. Shocking, I know. But it’s nice to see it backed now by data and being reported widely. (reason.com + washingtonpost.com, thanks Praemedia and Paul)

* Gratuitous porn of the nom nom nom variety: I love the new user-generated gallery collections at Met Art. Here is a fan of sexy Sofi A, a great multi-model selection, someone who loves sultry Hene A and a collection from someone who has great taste in itty bitty titties :)

featured fetishes

One of my sideline funtime obsessions is looking for paysites with quality porn where I can sign up as an affiliate and get free gallery content to share with you. I often find all kinds of strange and curious (and sometimes fantastic) ephemera of human sexual expression. Fetish For The People is one of them.

Now, I’ll warn you that it’s not for everyone, but I sent an inadvertently teasing Tweet out about one of their lines regarding their ability to cater to the fetish for “finger brushing” of which I had never heard about. Then in answer to KumiMonster, I screencapped their excellent and perplexing list of featured fetishes.

So there you have it. Click the image to see the larger, readable size.

A small but HOT photoset for Jiz Lee and Dylan Ryan (from a No Fauxxx set extracted from the highly recommended video Lesbian Life: Real Sex San Francisco) just went up in this post. You can also see more of this kind of real lesbian orgasmic action at Crash Pad, where a new trailer just went up.

Drool.

Totally just stumbled across this video Ulay by accident while researching an upcoming post about Balkan erotica — I love the music, Euro ethno funk with great horns, from Auroboro.

nude Japanese pearl divers

25 December 2008
Unrelated but really cool image via DrillPop. Poking around the blogs tonight, I re-encountered this breathtaking post on Eros Blog about nude and topless Japanese pearl diver women from the 1930s-60s. Bacchus updates it with a gorgeous reader contribution and a quote from a book called "Eros In Hell: Sex, Blood, […]

hot boy thursday: more explicit amateurs

25 December 2008
Image from this gallery. A little while back I posted about and offered up samples from the gay porn company that's been making some pretty hot straight porn -- in this week's boyflesh-fest, there's a bit of that, some solo action, and at least one or two bi (male) treats. I […]

an old favorite: Naked Killer

25 December 2008
Having the flu over the holidays is getting me caught up on Internet TV, plus a little more. One of my all-time favorite Hong Kong action films is Naked Killer (1992) and I'd gladly watch it again any day of the week -- the trailer is above.

top underreported sex stories of 2008

25 December 2008
Image by Skye Shelly. A hugely amount of sex, tech, culture and health (and even sex-impacting legislative) stories are of great importance but never make it to mainstream media, and came in under the radar. In this week's SF Chronicle I give these stories their due -- and more. My column […]

24 December 2008
I would like to thank Viviane at The Sex Carnival for bringing unto me this xmas eve, Fist Me This Christmas, sung holiday-doorstep-caroler style by the much-loved Canadian sex comedy duo, The Wet Spots. On another note, I was just texted by a friend who's out drinking in the Castro right […]

playful, arousing, ballsy: Vlastimil Kula

24 December 2008
When Taschen first released the book Kula, I thought it was one of the most exciting erotic photography books I'd ever seen, and I snapped up a copy right away. Since then, Vlastimil Kula has been busy. Watch this short (uncensored) video about his more recent collection of Spa shoots […]

calendar: 2009 Marie Claire Italia

24 December 2008
Here is another stunning 2009 European fashion calendar we're going to be wishing we could get our hands on; it's not as nipple-tastic and fetishy as the Vogue: Paris 2009 calendar I blogged about previously, but the 2009 Italian Marie Claire calendar (thefashiontime.com) of Eva Herzigova shot by Karl Lagerfeld […]

eroto-pop music moment

22 December 2008
Going through my blog posts throughout 2008 today for column research, I noticed that I occasionally inflict a pop music video on you. This is one of those times. Two versions of this video were cut: this version has all the erotic, controversial edits included that prevented the director's cut from […]

Image from Christian Petersen's beautiful and strange Nudes gallery. About a week ago, brilliant and deviously creative photographer Christian Petersen relaunched his website. We naturally want to go straight to his Nudes gallery, and it does not disappoint; I highly suggest you also peruse his strangely erotic non-nude work -- like […]
