on Cinematical about Zack and Miri Make a Porno, horror movies, sex, more…

In Zack and Miri Make a Porno, things don’t turn out quite as planned — and behind the scenes, the film struggled against the shadowy, frustratingly non-transparent MPAA for a number of reasons to be able to get placement in mainstream theaters. Before the film came out last friday, I was interviewed by the extremely talented James Rocchi about the issues surrounding the film, sex in Hollywood films in general, ans then we sort of had a nerd-off about horror films. James reviews movies, music and pop culture in many publications, though I’m most impressed that he spent seven years as a writer and film critic for Netflix.com (he was their head film critic) reviewing hundreds, possibly thousands of films — and he covers film festivals like Cannes, Toronto and Sundance. So jealous. He’s also been like, the best thing to TiVo on KPIX TV. He does fun retro rental reviews for SF Gate, too. James knows so much about films, it’s impossible not to get addicted to his podcasts and reviews; but I at least pulled out a couple indie horror films he hadn’t heard of — which are fantastic, by the way. (Such as Ils.)
