I’m still not sure what to be for Halloween. In between doing an interview about sex and robots today, and reviewing Kimberly Kane‘s incredible upcoming film Live In My Secrets, I came across the photography of Nathan Appel. Pretty, disturbing, edgy, sophisticated and very sexy — his occasional photos of stunning models in animal masks somehow fit a Halloween vibe around here. And what an insanely talented shooter Appel is.

I love stumbling across artists like Appel; there’s even transgression in the sweetness of the soft colors, and an ever present hint of something sinister in the way identity is somehow obfuscated in Appel’s photographs. All of his work is copyrighted, and you will enjoy a trip to the source.

Appel’s website is here and it’s packed with some of the finest work in the collection. My pleasures were found in Appel’s Flickr photostream — and you should really turn off your safe search, unless you hate pretty naked girls in bunny masks. But also, don’t miss his INCREDIBLE headphone series.
