[Yes, believe it or not, I do check the de-registered list every time I get a new doctor. Just to be on the safe side!]

I even had a GP recently tell me that I should only go to a doctor for a pap test – despite the fact that the women’s health nurse I see has the highest cell collection rate in the state. As my midwife mother advised me many years ago, only let someone near your girly bits if they know what they’re doing, and preferably if they spend all day, every day, doing the same thing.

Maybe women will see this as a reminder that they should always go with a health practitioner that they feel comfortable with – if you’re not comfortable, say no, make them stop and see someone else. Trust your instincts – if you’re told everything is fine but your body is saying otherwise, get a second opinion. You ARE worth it! And even if you’re frightened, please don’t be afraid to come forward and tell the truth – it is really hard to do, but you may be able to help someone from going through the same thing.
