happy birthday, mom!

by Violet Blue on April 8, 2007

Today’s the birthday of the amazing woman who adopted me as her daughter a couple years ago — Theresa Sparks. I went through all my teen years and my entire adult life without family, until I got adopted by SRL, and more recently by Theresa, who is the best mom in the whole entire world. With Theresa as my mother, I have been adopted by many *incredible* transgender women as family (sisters and aunts), a powerful and amazing group of women here in The City. Last week my aunt Cecilia Chung “pulled rank” on me to put me in charge of getting Theresa to her surprise bday party — one of the funnest days I’ve ever had. I just uploaded a few pics from the party, including her badge, and the mayoral proclamation that makes April 8 Theresa Sparks Day in San Francisco!

I love you, Theresa. Thank you for being the family I never had but always needed.
