* First off, congratulations to the Stockroom and Steve Diet Goedde for being on The Colbert Report! In the segment “Better Meet a Founder”, Colbert interviews Ben Franklin and attempts to one-up the founder with his own groundbreaking inventions — one being a sex sling (the 4-point stand with leather swing), image from the Stockroom and photo by Goedde. Of course, it’s used to “store potatoes and onions.” So *that’s* what they called it back then! Root vegetables are hot. (video)

* Seen this month’s issue of Jane Magazine? It’s full of porn. Unlike every other national women’s glossy in America, Jane met the topic head-on. Rather than coat it in the usual “how to please your man” BS, they took all of us Smart Girls that want to please *ourselves* seriously: it’s full of recommendations. And guess whose recommendations they wanted — mine! They were gracious and fun to work with, and in the piece “How to Build a Sex Library” by Kate Torgovnick (“Thanks to Violet Blue”), you’ll find Art School Sluts, John Leslie’s Voyeur series, Erocktavision 3, the Vintage Erotica Collection and Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story — and more. Yay!

* Two new podcasts are up! Email me with feedback about the audio quality; I’m using the new iLife ’06 suite. I had problems with low audio, but I’m not the only one. Open Source Sex 29 is the audio version of a new page you’ll see in the left sidebar, labeled “unsafe“. It’s required reading for all sex shoppers; I explain sex products that can hurt you, how they work (or don’t work) and why novelty companies make products that can harm you. You’ll never want to use Anal-Eze, you’ll freak out about Nonoxynol-9 and you might want to upgrade your toy collection.

Update: This has been BoingBoinged! Check out the post, with reader commentary: “Guide to unsafe sex products” (boingboing.net)

* The other new audio is Open Source Sex 30: When I Make You Say No by Julia Price. It’s a quickie short story from my *brand new book* Lips Like Sugar: Women’s Erotic Fantasies. (w00t!) I felt that the women’s fantasy genre needed a serious update, and this story is a terrific example of the book: it’s one long, hot, tense blowjob where the female narrator gets off by pushing her macho boyfriend to his limits. Such a turn-on. Enjoy!
